Swimming Ability:
It is very important to understand the swimming level of your
child(ren) and the expectation at each practice session. Students will
not receive swimming lessons; rather, they can work, on their own, on
stroke development and readiness to swim in the triathlon. Please
consult the “Swimming Ability Requirements” below to identify your
child’s swim skill level and determine if he or she should take
advantage of the swim practice opportunities on their own. Participants
will be tested at the first practice he or she attends to verify
swimming ability. Kick boards will be available to assist students and
lifeguards will be on duty.
Beginner: Student needs
to have a forward motion in water as well as breath control and arm
stroke over the water with a supportive kick. Student also must be able
to roll to their back and float.
Moderate: Student
needs to have a bilateral breathing pattern and an arm stroke over the
water with supportive kick. Student also must be able to roll to their
back and float.
Strong: Student has all of the above, plus endurance.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Physical Education teacher in your child’s elementary school.
